چکیده

Purpose Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS, alternatively known as secondary Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)) is a potentially life-threatening complication of many rheumatologic, infectious, and malignant diseases. It is characterized by the acute onset of disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and multi-system organ dysfunction in the setting of overwhelming inflammation. As a result of the poor understanding of disease pathogenesis, no consensus exists regarding how best to diagnose and treat this condition. Preliminary evidence in genetic forms of this disease (known collectively as primary HLH) suggests a critical role for IFNg and CD8+ T-lymphocytes.

Hepcidin Induces M1 Macrophage Polarization in Monocytes or THP-1 Derived Macrophages

Background: Macrophage polarization plays a critical role in determining the inflammatory states. Hepcidin is a key negative regulator of iron homeostasis and functions. Although hepcidin has been shown to affect ferroportin expression in macrophages, whether it affects macrophage polarization is still largely unknown. Objective: To address whether hepcidin ind...

Macrophage Activation Syndrome as the First Presentation of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a rare feature of rheumatic disorders in children and adolescence and its presentation as the first symptom of rheumatic disorders is very infrequent. A 9-year-old girl, in whom MAS developed, was admitted to our Hospital in Tehran, Iran. She suffered from high grade fever and rash followed by multiple joint swelling months afterwards. Bone marrow aspira...

Macrophage Activation Syndrome as the First Impression of Kawasaki Disease; A Case Report

Introduction Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a rare and life-threatening complication of Kawasaki Disease (KD) that is usually diagnosed at the same time or after KD. We report a case of MAS as the initial manifestation of KD. Case Report A previously healthy 3-year old girl was admitted to the pediatric infectious di...

Critical Role of Regulator G-Protein Signaling 10 (RGS10) in Modulating Macrophage M1/M2 Activation

Regulator of G protein signaling 10 (RGS10), a GTPase accelerating protein (GAP) for G alpha subunits, is a negative regulator of NF-κB in microglia. Here, we investigated the role of RGS10 in macrophages, a closely related myeloid-derived cell type. Features of classical versus alternative activation were assessed in Rgs10-/- peritoneal and bone marrow-derived macrophages upon LPS or IL-4 trea...

Comparision of the effects of Leishmania Soluble Antigen (LSA) and Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on C57BL/6 Mice Macrophage Function

Background: Macrophages activation is the important anti-leishmania immune response. Different signals could affect macrophages development and functional activation. Objectives: In the present study, we compared the effect of Leishmania Soluble Antigen (LSA)and Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on peritoneal macrophage responses. Appropriate activation of macrophages depends on thesignals they receive ...
